Situated on the A25 this is an excellent spot to break your journey. Dating from 1830, this former Surrey Trust Company pub stands on the banks of the Tillingbourne. There is a separate bar and a restaurant, which serves homemade food, cooked to order. There is a single menu, supplemented by a specials board, which is available in either the bar or the restaurant. Breakfast is served between 9am and 11am but the pub does not sell alcohol until midday. There is a wood burning stove in the main bar and a TV which may show terrestrial sport. The garden is reached by a bridge over the stream. The resident ghost is of a girl in her twenties who drowned in the Tillingbourne after trying to escape a fire in the pub. Luckily she is friendly and is known to turn the pub taps on, and to skip across the water.
